Judges 14:1-4 ( KJV; 1611 EDITION ) read as follows:
“And Samson went down to Timnath , and sawe [ sic ] a woman in Timnath , of the daughters of the Philistines. And hee came vp, and told his father and his mother, and said , I haue seene a woman in Timnath , of the daughters of the Philistines : nowe [ sic ] therefore get her for me to wife. Then his father and his mother said vnto him , Is there neuer a woman among the daughters of thy brethren, or among all my people, that thou goest to take a wife of the vncircumcised Philistines? And Samson said vnto his father , Get her for me, for shee pleaseth me well. But his father and his mother knew not that it was of the LORD, that hee sought an occasion against the Philistines : for at that time the Philistines had dominion ouer Israel” ( emphasis mine, R.E.W. ).
2 Samuel 24:1 ( KJV; 1611 EDITION ) reads as follows:
“And againe the anger of the LORD was kindled against Israel, and hee mooued [ sic ] Dauid against them , to say , Goe [ sic ], number Israel and Iudah” ( emphasis mine, R.E.W. ).
Jeremiah 25:7-13 ( KJV; 1611 EDITION ) read as follows:
“Yet yee haue not hearkened vnto me, saith the LORD, that yee might prouoke me to anger with the workes of your handes, to your owne hurt. Therefore thus saith the LORD of hostes ; Because yee haue not heard my words : behold, I will send and take all the families of the North, saith the LORD, and Nebuchad-rezzar [ sic ] the king of Babylon my seruant, and will bring them against this land, and against all these nations round about, and will vtterly destroy them, and make them an astonishment, and an hissing, and perpetuall desolations. Moreouer, I will take from them the voyce [ sic ] of myrth, and the voice of gladnes [ sic ], the voice of the bridegrome [ sic ], and the voice of the bride, the sound of the milstones, & the light of the candle. And this whole land shall be a desolation, and an astonishment, and these nations shal [ sic ] serue the king of Babylon seuentie yeeres. And it shall come to passe when seuentie yeeres are accomplished, that I will punish the king of Babylon and that nation, saith the LORD, for their iniquitie, and the land of the Caldeans, and will make it perpetuall desolations. And I will bring vpon that land all my words which I haue pronounced against it, euen all that is written in this booke , which Ieremiah hath prophesied against all the nations.”
With Judges 14:1-4 and 2 Samuel 24:1 in mind, we see examples of the providence of God. With Jeremiah 25:7-13 in mind, we see that God punishes iniquity ( please read Judges 14:1-20, 2 Samuel 24:1-25, and Jeremiah 25:1-38 to get the context of these passages in the Holy Bible ). We can see the providence of God and His punishment of iniquity in recent world events.
When considering what happened here in America on September 11th, 2001, it is clear that God’s anger was kindled against America. God, through His providence, punished America’s iniquity by allowing al-Qaida’s attacks against America on that day. From Jeremiah 25:1-11, we see that the prophet Jeremiah prophesied concerning God’s punishment on all the people of Judah and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem. However, we see from Jeremiah 25:12, 13 that when the seventy years was accomplished, the LORD would punish the king of Babylon and that nation ( the very king and nation that the LORD had previously used to punish all the people of Judah and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem ) for their iniquity.
In May of 2011, in a manner similar to God’s punishment of the king of Babylon and that nation ( as mentioned above ), God, through His providence, punished al-Qaida’s iniquity by allowing Osama bin Laden to be killed. While there are similarities between what is taught in Jeremiah 25:1-13, and the above-mentioned world events that occurred on September 11th, 2001, and again in May of 2011, the comparison is not an exact parallel. Namely, there was a time span of seventy years mentioned in Jeremiah 25:1-13, whereas, in the two recent world events mentioned above, there was a time span of less than ten years. Whatever the case may be, the above-mentioned lessons concerning God’s providence, and His punishment of iniquity, are clear.
As a Christian ( see Acts 11:26, for example ), I gladly state that I am on God’s side ( see Joshua 24:15, Romans 8:31, and Romans 15:4, for example ).
